Interpreting
We have many years' experience in interpreting, as evidenced by numerous credentials from our satisfied customers. We are able to meet even the most demanding challenge, such as conference for several hundred people, rare language combinations or provision of interpreting equipment to any location in Poland.
We deliver consecutive and simultaneous interpreting:
In CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETING, the interpreter begins his/her rendition only after the speaker has finished his/her delivery. The speaker's delivery may be divided into smaller chunks. In this interpreting mode, the interpreter usually delivers his/her rendition standing next to the speaker, listening to him/her and making notes. When the speaker has finished the speech, or makes a pause, the interpreter reconstructs the entire original speech, or chunk, in the target language. Consecutive interpreting essentially requires the interpreter to select essential information and deliver the gist of the message (hence the name "interpreter"). As a result, the rendition in consecutive interpretation is usually shorter than the message in the source language. In order to be able to memorise the contents of a, let's say 4-minute speech, interpreters often employ a special notation system, using symbols for key words and marks such as: connector, negation mark, underline, "leads to" mark, etc. The purpose of notes is not to memorise individual words, but to take down details enabling the interpreter to reconstruct the logical sequence as delivered by the speaker. Consecutive interpreting is typically used during official addresses of politicians. In less formal situations, liaison interpreting is used more frequently, being the delivery of shorter chunks of the original text (one or several sentences) in another language for one, two, or more persons. In liaison interpreting, the interpreter does not use and specialist equipment, is typically sitting next to the speaker, without making notes, owing to short chunks of text being delivered. Unlike in consecutive interpreting, the speaker's statements are shorter, often limited to single sentences. This means that the speaker needs to make pauses long enough for the interpreter to be able to render the message in the target language without having to resort to note-taking and without running the risk of leaving out a portion of the message. Liaison interpreting is used wherever high level of detail is required, for instance in testimonies given in courtroom by witnesses or court experts, or whenever it is difficult to make notes, as well as when the speaker has a presentation to accompany his speech, e.g. during training. A sub-mode of liaison interpretation is escort interpreting. It usually takes place when an interpreter assists a delegation during a journey, visit, at meetings or at various talks. Escort interpreting usually proceeds in the liaison mode (sentence by sentence).
SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETING is the interpretation of a speech in a different language as it is delivered by the speaker, using specialist equipment, or without it (the latter being the so-called "whispering", or, from French, "chuchotage"). Simultaneous interpreting in booths is typically used at conferences or meetings, with the number of attendees exceeding 20 persons. At events for less than 20 participants, it is possible to use hand-held equipment for simultaneous interpretation, comprising: receivers for listeners (headphones), transmitter for the interpreter and microphone for the speaker. In the case of whispering interpreting, the interpreter is sitting next to a small group of listeners and whispers to them the speaker's message as the latter delivers it. This mode does not require any specialist interpreting equipment. Whispering is typically used in situations where a small number of people does not speak the language the most of the meeting's participants speak.
At large conferences or meetings, it may be the case that interpreters do not represent all the necessary language combinations, e.g. a Russian-English combination at a conference where speakers use English, Polish and Russian. In this case, the so-called "relay" mode is employed, that is interpreting through another language, e.g. from Russian into Polish, and then from Polish into English. Relay helps to save some costs (savings on one pair of interpreters), but requires very good teamwork and uninterrupted delivery, so that the gap between the speaker's delivery and the rendition in the target language is not excessively long.
