Translation project for the Office of the Committee for European Integration
Project details:
The project was contracted by the Office of the Committee for European Integration under the agreement entered into on 20 April 2009. .
Key features of the project:
- short delivery time considering a significant number of pages (over 500);
- specialist terminology from different fields (agriculture, energy, finance, foreign policy, health care and other) presented in the publication and from the whole legislation of the European Communities;
- ensuring the relevant quality of the translation style of the text to be published;
- ensuring internal consistency in individual texts and “cross-consistency” in individual articles of the collection;
- coordinating the project works, systematic problem solving between the translator-project coordinator-reviser.
Key tasks the project delivery entailed:
- To ensure adequate human resources and their management
a) Selecting translators of relevant profile – with specialist knowledge of the project subject and experience in providing translation for publication;
b) Ensuring interaction among translators and between the translator-project coordinator-reviser, reviser-project coordinator-translator;
c) Selecting revisers with specialist knowledge of the project subject and expert language fluency.
- To manage terminology
a) preparing guidelines for translators;
b) creating the project terminology base and translation memory with the application of TRADOS (CAT software);
c) revising terminology in line with the EU Translation Services guidelines (IATE, Eurlex, etc.) including consultations with external experts;
d) ensuring terminological consistency within the text and “cross- consistency” between individual texts.
- To review and revise the project
a) reviewing and revising individual articles by language experts and experts from fields presented in the project;
b) final internal reviewing and making the whole collection consistent.
The project entailed significant work load from all participants; its key benefits include creating consistent terminological base and translation memory for potential future projects connected with the EU, improving advanced project coordination techniques and management of high priority projects (for publication).
